Colorful Concrete

Have I said lately how much I love this time of year? There is something about the warmth and getting to be outside in the sun. You can come by our house almost any time in the warm months and our sidewalk and driveway will be the most colorful on the block. We (yes! including me) love to decorate our concrete with chalk. It is something my sister and I just never did much and so now I make sure we always have chalk on hand - I'm not the only one who makes sure we have enough chalk. It is not unusual for neighbors to bring over brand new chalk for us.
I know this is a "sign of the times" and will be extinct before I am ready for it. For now, I will cherish my chalked up driveway and the times!

i was noticing today how the concrete area off of the back deck was chalked up with hopscotch and words and drawings. it has been so nice to just send the kids outside to play (i feed them out there, too!) to try and keep the house a little cleaner... and quieter. :-)

the boy who lives next door (he's 15 or 16) and his friends gave the kids a huge brand-new tub of sidewalk chalk last week-- like 100-count or something. they said they didn't need it anymore. :-)

I am so sorry that you were not allowed to draw on our driveway when you were growing up. Apparently, this is an area of your childhood that was neglected.

However, perspectives change as you grow older and now I also enjoy the artwork and look forward to having kids at our house this summer. I, too, have a 60 count box of chalk just waiting to be discovered!!!

Love ya, Mom

You know, I was just looking in the top of my hall closet (for a towel for our muddy dog) and came accoss the huge box of sidewalk chalk you guys got Kristin for her birthday last year. I'll have to pull it out and let them decorate the driveway. (~yesterday, we had so much rain and we were stuck inside with threats of baseball size hail and a tornado warning.)It should be nice soon and we will join you in coloring our neighborhood with sidewalk chalk!
